Pegasus Rental Cars was established in order to provide a rental car service for people who prefer not to pay the expensive rates that most other nationwide companies charge. Pegasus was set up in Christchurch in 1989 when the directors identified that importing Japanese cars would significantly lower the daily rental rate, catering for customers who did not require a brand new car. We initially targeted the international budget traveller offering them the flexibility of an affordable rental car at a cost no more than that of public transport. We now provide rental vehicles to many different markets, including the budget minded domestic traveller with car rentals from $35 per day. We have a wide range of rental vehicles and cater to the needs of all travellers, whether you are on holiday, business or attending a sports event we are sure to have the rental car or minibus to suit your needs.
The need for more cars and hence a greater capital requirement, led to the decision to grow the business through the franchising of the Pegasus Rental Cars system. This enabled the established rate of growth to continue and to keep up with the ever-increasing demands of the expanding tourism sector, one of the major success stories of the New Zealand economy. In 1991, the manager of the Christchurch branch set up the first franchise in Nelson. Pegasus has now developed a country wide network of over 25 locations. From these locations our friendly and professional owner operators are able to offer you quality service at a realistic price.
Pegasus now has locations all over New Zealand - North Island are Whangarei, Bay of Islands, Dargaville, Auckland Airport, Auckland City, North Shore, Manukau City, Hamilton, Coromandel, Mt Maunganui/Tauranga, Rotorua, Taupo, Gisborne, Napier, New Plymouth, Wanganui and Wellington. In the South Island we have Picton, Blenheim, Nelson, Christchurch Airport, Christchurch City, Greymouth, Dunedin, Queenstown and Invercargill.
Recently, there has been a push into the business market with our Blue Wing Loyalty Club, which has been successful in creating a lot of repeat business. We understand the value of saving our business customers time and money so Blue Wing was setup to reward the loyalty of our valued business customers and to give you even better service. Blue Wing offers priority 0800 reservations with preferential service across the Pegasus network, competitive set rates and a free upgrade. Our pickup and dropoff service from the airport and the quick hire process means you’ll be on your way faster with a minimum of paperwork.
Pegasus Rental Cars has plans to develop business in Australia which will enhance the size of the New Zealand market, due to the growth of incoming Trans Tasman travel. In the meantime we have an affiliation with RentforLess in Australia who have coverage throughout the country if you are looking for car rental in Australia.
Pegasus has always been number one in internet presence, being the first New Zealand rental car company to setup with a website. In December 2009 we revamped our network of websites, with a new design, more content and updated our online booking system where you can get an instant quote or book online at any time of the day. You can also view the vehicle classes that our branches offer, check out our terms and conditions of hire and rental agreement. Each of our branches has a comprehensive list of local events, what to see and do, and local itineraries, so you can pretty much plan your whole trip on our websites. We have plans in the near future to setup Online Booking for our Blue Wing customers and our Agents.
